With 156 days remaining to the August 9 elections the ODM leader Raila Odinga has taken Kalonzo Musyoka’s home-ground by storm.

The former prime minister held a number of rallies in Machakos county on Saturday, March 5, where the turnout was impressive.

Enthusiastic supporters turn out in large numbers even though the region is perceived to be a political bedroom to the Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

Speaking in Machakos town on Saturday, Raila urged Ukambani residents not to abandon him reminding them that the journey to Canaan is still on.

The ODM leader indirectly urged the Wiper leader to join Azimio la Umoja, saying that the Azimio movement has no discrimination.

“In 2013 you voted for me. In 2017 you also voted for me. I want all our people to come together. Azimio la Umoja has got no discrimination,” Raila said.

The ODM boss was accompanied by Governors Hassan Joho (Mombasa), Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Charity Ngilu (Kitui), and their Makueni counterpart Kivutha Kibwana.

Others were MPs Junet Mohammed, Kanini Kega, and Machakos gubernatorial candidate Nzioka Waita among others.

Raila Odinga’s campaign to the Ukambani region come after the Wiper caused an uproar within Azimio la Umoja by demanding that the ODM leader Raila Odinga honors the 2017 NASA deal.

In the NASA deal that Kalonzo made public recently, Raila Odinga has agreed to support the Wiper leader in the 2022 polls irrespective of the 2017 election outcome.

The former vice-president had vowed not to attend Azimio la Umoja rallies until a deal is signed between him and the ODM leader.
