Raila Odinga’s high-powered delegation on London trip

Presidential hopeful Raila Odinga on Sunday, March 13, flew to the UK for a 5-day tour accompanied by several yet-to-be registered Azimio la Umoja coalition leaders.

Raila left the Country hours after he was endorsed as Azimio la Umoja presidential flag bearer for the August 9, General Election and after more than 20 political parties signed a pact to support his candidature.

The ODM leader was accompanied by several leaders including the ODM deputy party leader and Mombasa governor Hassan Ali Joho.

Former Gatanga Member of Parliament Peter Kenneth, who is being considered as Raila’s best presidential running mate accompanied the opposition leader.

Others include Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu who recently offered herself to be Raila’s running mate, former Head of Public Service Sally Kosgei, and COTU boss Francis Atwoli.

In a statement on Monday, March 14, Raila spokesperson Dennis Onyango said during the five-day London trip, the former prime minister is expected to sell his ideologies to the Kenyans in the diaspora.

He said will on Tuesday, March 16, will address the international community at the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Royal Institute of International Affairs or Chatham House.

“At the Commonwealth Secretariat, Odinga will speak on ‘The road to peaceful elections in Kenya’, while his address at Chatham House will be on ‘Kenya’s 2022 elections: priorities for unity and policy change,

“At the two events, Raila will share his vision for Kenya and Africa in an increasingly uncertain world, and will reflect on the political goal of unity presented by the Azimio la Umoja coalition movement,” Onyango said.

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s handshake partner is also scheduled to hold other meetings with different leaders and groups.

Raila is expected to watch the Arsenal versus Liverpool Premier League Match on Wednesday, March 16, before holding a meeting with Kenyans living in the UK on Thursday, March 17.

This comes barely a week after Deputy President William Ruto concluded his 10 days tour of the country, where he also spoke at Chatham House during his visit to the United States.
