“Baba Raila Odinga must and will be the next President of the Republic of Kenya. Any person that wants his endorsement must wait till he completes his terms,” he said in a Tweet.

The statement came barely a day after Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka said he had a deal with Raila to be supported for the top seat in the 2022 General Election.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday, March 1, the Kalonzo maintained that it was Raila’s turn to support his presidential bid ahead of the August 9, General Election.

The former vice president, who had insisted that he will not play a second fiddle to his former Nasa partner Raila Odinga, said he was ready to reunite with him only if he honors a 2017 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) they signed.

Kalonzo revealed that Raila had signed an agreement that required him to support the former vice-president in the 2022 presidential polls irrespective of the 2017 presidential election outcome.

“Principal H (Raila Odinga) agrees in a public MOU to serve one term and publicly endorse principal Q (Kalonzo Muyoka) as the presidential candidate for 2022,” Kalonzo said.

While Kalonzo accused Raila of breaching their 2017 covenant, Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana who witnessed the signing of the agreement argued that Raila did not in any way breach the agreement.

“Article 3 and 4 of the agreement could not have been implemented since Raila could not serve one term so as to pave way for Kalonzo or any other NASA principal,” Kibwana said.
