Raila Odinga’s party disowns presidential hopeful Jimmy Wanjigi

by Enock Ndayala

The ODM party has warned businessman Jimmy Wanjigi against his plot to disrupt the planned National Delegates Convention (NDC) meeting.

According to the ODM party’s Nairobi Chairman George Aladwa, Wanjigi who has expressed interest in squaring it out with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for the party’s presidential ticket is not among the list of delegates that was prepared in December 2021.

“The Nairobi ODM branch and sub-branches held its elections that closed on 8th December 2021 and we have checked the list of delegates and we haven’t found his name either at the ward, constituency, or county level,” Aladwa said.

The ODM party has warned businessman Jimmy Wanjigi against his plot to disrupt the planned National Delegates Convention (NDC) meeting.

Aladwa further cautioned the businessman cum politician to keep off the meeting nor demand to address the delegates since he was just an ordinary member.

“This is therefore to caution one Jimi Wanjigi to desist from claiming to be a legitimate delegate when he is just an ordinary member of the party,” Aladwa added.

This comes barely days after the presidential hopeful said he will attend the NDC as a delegate adding that he was a life member of the Orange party.

“I’m a life member of ODM and a delegate from Nairobi. I will attend the NDC and demand to speak,” he said.

This comes even as the presidential hopeful threatened to paralyze the party’s NDC over the omission of the nomination exercise for the party’s presidential candidate.

In a letter addressed to ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, Wanjigi argued that the omission of the nomination of the party’s presidential candidate might expose the party to the risk of not nominating its presidential candidate for the 2022 General Election.

“As an aspirant for the party’s presidential ticket, the omission of this critical agenda at the Convention, in my considered view, is unreasonable, smells of ulterior motive, and is meant to curtail my rights as a life member of the party to participate in the party’s affairs,” Wanjigi said.
