Raila Odinga’s Party, ODM has given conditions under which they will accept the results of the 2022 presidential election.

Speaking at the International Day of Peace celebrations on Tuesday, September 21, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said that the party is committed to ensuring a peaceful pre and post-election period.

Raila Odinga’s Party SG explained that just like in other competitions, an election must have a winner and loser.

Edwin Sifuna said that ODM will accept the results of the elections only if it will be free, fair, transparent and credible.

“ODM is committed to a peaceful election in August 2022. We will support any roadmap to a peaceful election. We will accept elections results as long as they are free, fair, transparent, and credible,” he said

Raila Odinga’s party has been fond of protesting elections results every time that he vies.

For the 5 times that Raila Odinga has vied for the presidency, he has always had a hard time accepting defeat.

In the case of 2007, Raila Odinga protested the results of the election thereafter bargaining a peace pact with his opponent Mwai Kibaki. He was then appointed as the Prime Minister.

In 2013 Raila again dismissed the results of the General Election where Uhuru Kenyatta had defeated him. His appeal at the supreme court was quashed.

In 2017, Raila Odinga’s party also protested the results of the polls, leading to his mock swearing-in as the People’s president.

Later on, Raila bargained for a peace agreement with Uhuru Kenyatta under the March 2018 handshake.

The handshake brought Raila Odinga close to his opponent Uhuru Kenyatta, and they have since been working together.

According to Raila Odinga, the handshake acted in favour of Uhuru Kenyatta who had been held captive by his deputy William Ruto.
