Raila Odinga divides Kenya into three zones based on support for his presidential bid

by Amos Khaemba

Raila Odinga’s team has mapped the Country into zones, in a way of having an advantage over his main challenger William Ruto in the upcoming August 2022 presidential election.

The strategists have divided that country into three zones, based on perceived support and hostility for the ODM leader who shall be taking his fifth stab at the presidency since his first attempt in 1997.

The team has labeled Raila’s strongholds in blue i.e where he enjoys fanatical support, battleground(green where there is a chance for the ODM leader to win some crucial votes), and hostile (red where there i.e little to no support)

The blue zones are regions arrived at after considering the fact they have been overwhelmingly been voting for Raila Odinga in the past elections.

Raila has traditionally received unwavering support from Nyanza, Western, and Coast regions. The strongholds are regions that Odinga has traditionally enjoyed a lot of support, including Nyanza, Western, and Coast.

The battlegrounds are labeled by Raila’s strategist as regions where any presidential candidate can win the majority of votes.

They have established Central, Eastern, Noth Eastern, and Nairobi regions as the battleground ahead of the August presidential election.

In these regions, the team plans to have a well-organized and vigorous campaign as they will be key in determining who wins the presidency.

Even though central has always been hostile to Raila, his association with Uhuru Kenyatta is working in his favor and his strategists believe he can beat William Ruto here.

Speaking to the press for the first time, Raila’s Campaign Board chairman Ndiritu Muriithi pointed out that regions that used to be hostile to Odinga are slowly embracing his candidature.

“Supporters should feel very encouraged because most regions that Raila had no support are stepping forward,” Muriithi said.

On Mt. Kenya zone Muriithi was confident Raila will perform better than his previous presidential bids.

Lastly, Raila’s team has picked Rift Valley as the hostile region hence branding it, red zone.

The red zone regions are areas Raila is expected to get minimal support for his presidential bid.

Raila’s main competitor, Deputy President William Ruto comes from Rift Valley which could have informed the zoning of the region as red.

Speaking to The Daily Newspaper, Nominated MP, Maina Kamanda was precise by saying they intend to secure Odinga’s strongholds of Western, Coast, and Nyanza and set up the campaign in the battlegrounds.

“Raila normally gets two to three percent of Mt Kenya vote. He will be home and dry if he secures 30% to 50%,” Kamanda said.

The plan of Raila’s team is to ensure all regions of the country are well covered and given the attention basing in the possibility of winning the zone.
