ODM leader Raila Odinga’s wife Ida Odinga has called upon Nairobian’s to consider electing Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi their next governor in the 2022 General Election.
Tim Wanyonyi is among several names including businesswoman Agnes Kagure, former Dagoreti south MP Denis Waweru who have expressed interest in becoming the next Nairobi governor.
Like Agnes Kagure, Tim Wanyonyi shall be banking on the support of ODM leader Raila Odinga to boost his chances of taking the big city’s seat.
Speaking as the guest of honour at an event staged by the MP in his constituency on October 3, Ida Odinga, considered influential in her husband’s political decisions, said Tim Wanyonyi is more than qualified to lead the country’s richest county.
”Tim has been your MP for two terms. Do you want him to continue as an MP? If he has a dream,, he can achieve it if we help him work towards achieving it,” she said.
The 2-time city MP is expcted to officially declare his gubernetorial candidature in the first week of November 2021, becoming the first such person to do so with less than a year ot the 2022 Genral Election.
Ida Odinga went on to heap praise on Tim Wanyonyi’s organisational and planning skills while drawing examples to when they worked together during Tim’s reign as the head of Kenya Paraplegic Associations.
Nairobi Woma Representative Esther Passaris,, also of ODM, has thrown her wieght behind Tim Wanyoinyi, sayif the county shall be in safe hands with him at the help.
“I wish you all the best in your bid to be our next Governor. There’s no doubt that Nairobi will be in safe hands given your vast experience and track record as an councilor, and an MP,” she posted on her Twitter.
Nairobi county guernetorial seat is usually considered the most important after the presidential seat in any General Election.
In the coming election President Uhuru and his handshake parnter Raila Oding’a prefffered candidate are likely to have an upper hand in clinching the seat.
It thus remains to be seeen if Ida Odinga’s endorsement of Tim would tilt the scales in his favour against more wealthy and highly connected individuals like Denis Waweru and Agnes Kagure.
