Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has accused President William Ruto of exhibiting dictatorial predispositions.
The ODM party leader said the move by President William Ruto’s government to kick out four dissenting IEBC commissioners would divide the country instead of uniting the country.
Raila who was addressing the media on Thursday, November 24, said since he was sworn in as the fifth president, Ruto has not shown interest in bringing the country together.
“Since the conclusion of the 2022 election saga, we have done our best to give Ruto time and space to heal and unite our nation. Ruto thinks we have surrendered,” Raila said.
The Azimio la Umoja party leader said he will not sit back and watch the deepening rift in the country and that if that is what the Head of State wants then he will easily assist.
“If deepening and widening the divisions among Kenyans is what the UDA regime wants we will only be too happy to help them along the path,” Raila said.
While defending the four dissenting IEBC commissioners, Raila said Juliana Cherera, Justus Nyang’aya, Irene Masit, and Francis Wanderi were not guilty of the claims leveled against them and that the summons was politically instigated to settle scores.
“A member of a commission is not liable to anything done in good faith. By summoning these commissioners, the parliament is usurping the role of the tribunal,
“The conduct of the commission was part of the election petition. None of the commissioners was found to have committed any offense; Only IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati was found to have acted unilaterally,” Raila added.
On Monday, August 15, the four rejected the presidential results announced by Wafula Chebukati saying the final tally was conducted in an ‘opaque’ manner.
