Raila says his brother is the right man for Siaya Senator

by Enock Ndayala

ODM leader Raila Odinga has thrown his weight behind his elder brother Oburu Odinga to succeed Siaya Senator James Orengo.

Speaking on Saturday, December 25, at a Christmas service at St Peter’s Nyamira Parish, Raila asked the residents to back the candidature of the Kenyan representative to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

The opposition chief said that his elder brother has vast experience and that he should not beg for votes because he has served the county and the country in several capacities.

“Oburu should not be standing here to beg for votes so that he becomes the Senator for Siaya. It is embarrassing. He has served as the MP for Bondo and has also been a representative at EALA,” Raila stated.

Raila who recently announced his fifth stab at the 2022 polls further said he will not be going to his Nyanza region to campaign for his elder brother and Siaya Senator James Orengo who has declared interest in Siaya gubernatorial seat.

“I need not come to Siaya to campaign for Senator James Orengo and Oburu Odinga. You as the electorate can handle that,” Raila said.

Raila’s remarks came after his elder brother cried foul stating that a section of leaders from Siaya County is calling on him to hang his boots due to his age.

The EALA member further said his opponents are banking on Raila’s presidency to shut his senatorial bid who are claiming that it would be so bad for the brothers to serve Kenyans as a president and a senate respectively.

“Some people are saying that I should not contest because my brother is going to be the President,

“I mean even in the United State, JF Kennedy was the president and his brother was the Attorney General. It is a contest on capability and competence, not brotherhood,” Oburu said.
