Raila supporter vow not to protest if Supreme Court upholds Ruto’s win

by Enock Ndayala

Supporters of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party captain Raila Odinga have vowed not to take to the streets if the Supreme Court verdict is made in William Ruto’s favour.

The seven judges of the Supreme Court are on Monday, September 5, expected to deliver a ruling on the presidential petition filed by Raila seeking to nullify the election of Ruto as the fifth president.

However, supporters of the former Prime Minister faulted Raila for not safeguarding his votes and that they will not protest in the event William Ruto’s presidential win is upheld by the apex court.

“Round hii sisi kama wajaluo tumeamua hatutaenda kwa barabara baada ya matoke ya kesi inayopinga uteuzi wa William Ruto kama rais “This round we as Luo people have decided that we will not go to the streets after the results of the case against the appointment of William Ruto as president,” a Raila supporter told LTV Kenya.

The man further predicted that the UDA presidential flag bearer will beat Raila hands down in the event the Supreme Court orders a re-run.

According to him, the majority of the Luos who voted for Raila had travelled back to their work and hence could not take part in the re-run, something he said will disadvantage him.

“Even if we go for a rerun, Ruto will still beat us in the morning, because he is busy on the ground but Raila is looking after the affairs of Bomas

“Politics is about calculations, Ruto is currently convincing politicians who won seats as independent candidates to join his party while Raila is focusing on Supreme Court,” the man added.

Last week, the US Embassy issued a security alert warning its citizens against travelling to Kisumu, a region perceived to be Raila’s traditional stronghold over possible protests that could result from the Supreme Court verdict.
