Raila Odinga’s sister and President Uhuru Kenyatta’s younger brother have been appointed to plum government jobs.
Wenwa Akinyi Odinga and Muhoho Kenyatta were appointed member of the Kenya Medical Research Institute Board and honorary warden respectively.
The two were appointed on Friday, May 21, and are expected to serve in their respective capacities for a period of three years.
In a gazette notice dated May 21, Tourism CS Najib Balala published the 300 names of wardens and their designated areas where Muhoho was appointed to work at the Southern Conservation area.
The Kenya Wildlife Service established positions of honorary mainly to help the service in carrying out the provisions of the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act 2013.
Being active in wildlife conservation initiatives within the conservation area were some of the basic requirements for the vacant.
KWS said the main duties and functions of honorary warden include Wildlife security, problematic animal management and conservation education.
Other duties include community engagement and awareness creation on wildlife conservation, fundraising for wildlife conservation among other roles.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on the other hand appointed Wenwa Akinyi Odinga as a member of Kenya Medical Research Institute Board.
Upon her appointment, Raila’s sister who is a diplomat previously served at Kenya’s Consulate in Los Angeles, California.
She holds a Ph.D. in Organic and Natural Products Chemistry. She once served as the Chief Chemistry of the Pyrethrum Board of Kenya and senior Lecturer at the University of Nairobi.
