Raila vs Ruto: Journalist Yvonne Okwara, Eric Latif to moderate presidential debate

The ODM leader Raila Odinga has maintained the lead, ahead of William Ruto as the main presidential candidate in Mombasa County

Deputy President William Ruto will be facing off with Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party presidential candidate Raila Odinga in the 2022 presidential debate.

The presidential debate set for July 26, will be held at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa where four Presidential candidates for the 2022 General Election will participate.

Deputy President William Ruto of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, Raila Odinga of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party, George Wajackoyah of the Roots Party, and lawyer David Waihiga of the Agano Party are the four candidates who will be interviewed.

The presidential Debate Secretariat said in a statement that will be split into two groups.

The first debate will start at 5:00 pm and will feature candidates who have polled less than 5 percent in three recent opinion polls.

The second debate will involve candidates who have polled above 5 percent in three recent opinion polls.

The Secretariat has selected five renowned journalists to host the 2022 presidential debate.

They include; Smriti Vidyarthi (NTV), Ken Mijungu ( KTN News), Yvonne Okwara (Citizen TV), Eric Latiff (Spice FM & KTN News), and Joe Ageyo (NTV).

Tier one which will feature David Waihiga and George Wajackoyah will be moderated by Smriti Vidyarthi of NTV and KTN News’ Ken Mijungu.

The second tier featuring presidential front runners William Ruto and Raila Odinga will be moderated by Yvonne Okwara and Eric Latiff.

Joe Ageyo will moderate the panel discussions for both debates.

“The moderators have been selected based on rigorous criteria that abide by among other things the principles of impartiality, fairness, and objectivity, a strong understanding of the Kenyan political landscape and the major issues of elections,” the Presidential Debate Secretariat said.
