Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has for the first time discussed the reasons that led to his brother’s loss in the 2022 presidential election.

Oburu’s younger brother Raila Odinga lost to President William Ruto in the 2022 presidential elections making his fifth unsuccessful attempt to occupy the house on the hills.

According to results announced by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, Raila emerged second after polling 6.9 million votes against William Ruto’s 7.1 million votes.

The former Prime Minister lost the seat despite having the backing of then President Uhuru Kenyatta, the majority of the Jubilee Cabinet, and what many say was the ‘Deep State’.

However, Raila’s elder brother has revealed why the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leader Raila Odinga lost the presidency for a record fifth time.

Oburu said that President William Ruto outsmarted them despite having been kicked out of the Jubilee government.

He said while Azimio’s wing thought that they had sealed all the loopholes in the electoral process, Oburu claimed that they forgot to cover gaps that were evident at the electoral agency.

“We previously thought that ‘The System’ was all about the President but we later discovered that Ruto had taken hold of other portions of “The System” including security,” Oburu explained.

Oburu further dismissed allegations that ex-President Uhuru Kenyatta betrayed his brother Raila Odinga.

He said Raila’s handshake partner did all that he could to ensure the ODM leader succeeds him adding that he was even shocked when President Ruto was announced, as President-elect.

“Uhuru did not betray Raila! He tried his best, but Chebukati is the one who outsmarted Uhuru because Uhuru had a lot of faith in him. Uhuru was utterly shocked when Chebukati declared Ruto as the President-elect,” Oburu added.
