by Enock Ndayala

Kitutu Chache MP Richard Onyonka has said he is waiting for ODM leader Raila Odinga to become the president before he retires from active politics.

Speaking on Thursday, November 25, when he officially joined Raila Odinga’s ODM party ahead of the 2022 elections, the former Ford Kenya Deputy Party leader excuded confidence that the opposition leader will form the next government.

“I was in ODM 20 years ago and yet I never understood your (Raila Odinga) plans for Kenya. This is a man I have been waiting for to become president then I can retire,” Onyonka said.

Onyonka further said he will work hand in hand with the Orange party so that he can help former Prime Minister in his quest to succeed retiring President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“We will work together with the team that is elected and we shall not defect from the party again,” he added.

On Monday, November 22, the legislator in a televised interview revealed that he had relinquished his position as FORD Kenya deputy party leader due to conflict of interest.

The legislator stated that he could not stay in Ford Kenya when he believes in voting for ODM leader Raila Odinga in the coming General Election.

“I defected, I am no longer the party leader. I am no longer a party leader in Ford Kenya. I actually relinquished my position two weeks ago when the party held its National Delegates Conference (NDC). I couldn’t stay in Ford Kenya when I actually believe in Raila (Odinga),” Onyonka said.

Onyonka retained his Kitutu Chache parliamentary seat following a by-election after the parliamentary election was postponed following the death of Leonard Mwamba (Jubilee nominee) weeks to the August 8 General election.
