During President Ruto’s bid day, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua showed up wearing a pair of white gumboots and a green suit.

In his opening remarks, the immediate former Mathira Member of Parliament apologized to his boss for his new look at such a crucial event on which the Head of State was also commemorating his wedding anniversary.

He said it was not his wish to put on gumboots but it was because he came with an intention of planting trees in Kajiado hence the kind of shoes he wore today.

The second in command then joined other Kenyans in wishing President William Ruto a happy birthday as he turned 56 years.

“Kwa  niaba ya wafanyakazi wa serikali na wakenya, I wish you (President William Ruto) a happy birthday lakini naomba msamaha kwa kuja birthday yako kama nimevaa gumboots, sio madharau, ni mambo ya kazi,” Gachagua said.

Loosely translated to: “On behalf of all government workers and the people of Kenya, I want to wish you a happy birthday. I also want you to forgive me because I have come to your birthday while wearing gumboots. It’s not that I have looked down upon you since I respect you. This is just work am doing because even you yourself once approved the idea of work being treated properly.”
