On Monday, September 5, the seven judges of the Supreme Court dismissed a presidential petition filed by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga challenging William Ruto’s presidential win.
The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party captain Raila Odinga in his 72-page petition alleged that William Ruto did not achieve the 50 percent plus one vote threshold required by the Constitution to be declared the president.
However, in the ruling delivered by Supreme Court president Martha Koome, the bench upheld Ruto’s victory stating that the UDA presidential candidate met all the Constitutional thresholds among them the 50 percent plus one vote.
But in a statement on Monday, September 12, blogger Robert Alai sensationally claimed that Supreme Court dismissed Raila’s petition because judges feared William Ruto.
“In 2022, the Supreme Court of Kenya feared delivering judgment against a vindictive Ruto. That made them wholly decide to save themselves and their families,” Alai said in a Tweet.
The Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) further claimed that the judges further feared invalidating William Ruto’s win because they suspected Raila could boycott a repeat of elections if at all they could nullify Ruto’a victory.
“They feared Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party boycotting elections unless IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati Chebukati resigns,” he added.
Before the Supreme Court verdict was made, Raila had already started calling for the resignation of IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati sending a clear indication that he will not participate in the repeat of the presidential election unless the referee is changed.
“He (Wafula Chebukati) should disqualify himself from presiding over Mombasa and Kakamega gubernatorial polls,
“Martha Karua and I have seen a lot of injustices. We are dealing with very corrupt opponents who had planned to rig a long time ago. The truth shall set the Kenyan nation free. Please be patient,” Raila said.
