by Enock Ndayala

Presidential candidate in the August 9, presidential elections George Wajackoyah’s running mate Justina Wamae has officially resigned from the Roots Party.

In her letter to the ‘Mizizi’ party dated Wednesday, September 21, Justina asked the outfit to remove her name from the party’s register.

“In this regard, I tender my resignation as a member of Roots Party of Kenya. Kindly accord the ORPP the requirements for my name’s prompt removal from your party register,” her letter reads in part.

She further stated that her position as the party’s presidential running mate ended immediately after William Ruto was declared the winner in the August polls.

“My role as Roots Party of Kenya Presidential Running mate lapsed with the declaration Of H.E President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on the 16th of August 2022 and subsequent upholding of the election by the Supreme Court of Kenya on the 5th of September 2022,” she added.

On Thurday, September 22, Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu confirmed that her office had received Justina Wamae’s letter exiting the party.

“This Office acknowledges receipt of your letter dated 22 September 2022 on the above subject matter and duly notes the content therein,” stated Ann Nderitu, Registrar of Political Parties in a statement dated Thursday, September 22.

In an apparent swipe at the party officials, Wamae disclosed that the Roots party’s main goal was to get a share of the political party’s fund which would then benefit just one person.

“A party is not entitled to funding if they do not have elected members. The hostility besides the project was that Mizzi will benefit from the fund. I have voluntarily resigned. They can now eat hot air. Watch this space,” she said.

Her resignation comes days after George Wajackoyah’s party appointed a new deputy party leader after having been in a power struggle with Justine for a while.
