Rtd President Uhuru to live next to Maasai Mara National Park

by Enock Ndayala

On Tuesday, September 13, Uhuru Kenyatta, the son of Kenya’s founding president Mzee Jomo Kenyatta peacefully handed over instruments of power to his successor William Ruto.

This marked a new beginning for the former Head of State who is settling into his new life as a civilian after two decades in the murky field of politics.

Uhuru, who served as Kenya’s First in Command for two terms has reportedly shifted his life from the vote-rich Mt Kenya region to the Maasai land.

The Standard reported on Tuesday, October 18, that the Jubilee party leader has now settled in Oloolmongi, Trans Mara, in Narok County.

Uhuru’s 1,000-acre farm is in the southwestern part of the Masai Mara National Reserve.

Apart from boasting a variety of wildlife all year round, Uhuru’s farm is strategically located in a cool place away from the country’s capital city’s pollution.

The former Finance Minister will also enjoy a prime viewing location of the herds of the great migration entering and exiting the Masai Mara from the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania.

Uhuru’s stay in Narok means that the politician has snubbed his other homes, which include Ichwareri (Kiambu), the house next to the State House (Nairobi), Gicheha farm (Nakuru), Nyali residence (Mombasa) and abroad.

Kivumbi.co.ke understands that the vote-rich Mt Kenya region overwhelmingly voted for Uhuru’s political friend-turned-foe William Ruto in the August 9, election.

While the former Head of State is yet to disclose why he abandoned his other homes in the region, it is suspected that he shifted to Maasai Mara after his political turf defied his political direction despite being the political kingpin.

Uhuru is not the first retired president to snub his ancestral home.

After handing over power to Uhuru in 2008, Kibaki, who died at 90, also snubbed the KSh 400 million retirement homes in Mweiga, Nyeri, to live in Muthaiga, Nairobi.
