Muthama is expected to appear before the Senate’s Legal Affairs and Human Rights Committee.

In a statement, Muthama who was among 8 shortlisted candidates to fill the slot in the powerful parliament commission that checks on the welfare of lawmakers confirmed to have resigned as the UDA chairman.

“I have handed over my resignation to the party headquarters. What I’m doing right now is handing over to the party secretariat,” Muthama said.

His resignation is in line with a public representative at the PSC which states that the person must not be a leader or an official of any political party.

The Senate has invited the public to submit any representation on Muthama’s suitability for the PSC role.

“Pursuant to section 6 (9) of the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act, 2011, the Standing Committee on Justice, Legal Affairs and Human Rights now invite interested members of the public to submit representations on the suitability of Johnson Muthama for appointment to the position of member of the Parliamentary Service Commission under Article 127 (2)(d) of the Constitution,” said Nyegenye.

If approved, Muthama will replace Samuel Chepkonga who resigned from PSC as the male public member ahead of the August 9 polls.
