After the clearance by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, the battle for the State House between the 2022 presidential frontrunners Raila Odinga and William Ruto is taking shape.

Both the Azimio la Umoja-Kenya coalition party presidential flag bearer and his United Democratic Alliance counterpart are crisscrossing the country in the hunt for votes ahead of their titanic battle on August 8.

In terms of political electoral units, the country could be segmented into 8 voting blocs with different voting strengths in terms of registered voters.

In the latest polls by Mizani Africa, William Ruto is in total control of the vote-rich regions of Mt Kenya and Rift Valley.

According to the polls, DP Ruto enjoys 64.6% support in his Rift Valley backyard whereas the ODM leader has 30.4 %.

In the Mt Kenya region, even after falling out with President Uhuru Kenyatta, DP Ruto still has 67.2 % support of the Mt Kenya region which controls more than 5 million votes.

According to the poll conducted between 24 May to June 4, the ODM leader enjoys more support in 6 out of the 8 traditional voting blocs.

In Nairobi County, the former prime minister has 53.6 % support of the 2.5 million registered voters whereas Ruto has 37.1%.

In Lower Eastern and North Eastern, the ODM leader has a popularity rate of 68.1% and 51.1% respectively and this could be attributed to the support of Kalonzo Musyoka.

In Western Kenya even with the support of Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula, William Ruto is still trailing the ODM leader who has 61.4 % support in the Mulembe region.

The survey further indicates that the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party presidential flag bearer enjoys 56.2 % of the coastal region whereas Ruto has 36.2% support.

Nyanza region where Rqaila Odinga enjoys a fanatical following, he has 77.8 % of the residents supporting his fifth attempt at the presidency.

Overall, the former prime minister remains the most popular presidential candidate with 59 days to the General Election where Kenyans will get to choose their next president after Uhuru Kenyatta retires.

“Raila emerges to be the most popular presidential candidate commanding the lead with 47.5%. William Ruto comes second place with 46.6%. Based on Mizani’s previous National Polls, this indicates an upward trajectory for Raila and a downward trend for Ruto” Mizani said in its findings.
