Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot now claims that Raila Odinga’s party could be preparing to reject the 2022 election results.
Earlier on leaders allied to the ODM party leader Raila Odinga led by Homa Bay Woma Rep Gladys Wanga said they were considering a plot to kick out the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chair Wafula Chebukati.
But Cheruiyot, a close ally of Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto in a Tweet on Saturday, August 14, said that could be ODM’s tactic to prepare grounds of rejecting the 2022 election results.
“Familiar tune. It always starts with IEBC must go….then ends at illegal swearing-in…The cycle begins…,” Cheruiyot said.
Speaking at the burial of Mzee David Ajwang Nyakwamba, father of Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang and Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang on Friday, August 13 Wanga accused Chebukati of presiding over a presidential election that was nullified by the Supreme Court.
“I really fear if Chebukati still heads the polls body. We will consult with MPs and find a solution. We cannot allow this country to be plunged into chaos because of polls not properly conducted,” Gladys Wanga.
Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala shortly afterward opposed ODM plans to kick out IEBC boss Wafula Chebukati ahead of the crucial 2022 General Election saying politicians engineering the ouster of Chebukati need to know that you cannot keep changing the referee, every time the results of the game do not go in your favor.
Another of William Ruto’s die hard, Garissa Township MP Aden Duale also weighed in on the matter asking DOM to leave the referee (IEBC boss) alone.
Duale wondered why political players start pushing for the removal of IEBC boss every time we approach a general election.
“Well, unless it is an attempt to botch the General Election of 2022 why would anyone with sound mind call for the removal of the Chairman of IEBC with 360 days left to election date?” the former Majority Leader in the National Assembly quipped.
