Ruto man endorses Raila’s ally for Nakuru gubernatorial seat

by Enock Ndayala

The bad blood between two of William Ruto’s allies-Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika and Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri appears to be far from over less than 70 days to the August 9, General Election.

While the duo is in the same political camp, they just can’t seem to find a lasting solution to their unending political differences.

Their differences might no doubt play into the hands of their rival political camp, the Azimio-One Kenya Alliance headed by President Uhuru and presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

How? Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui is expected to face it off with Nakuru senator Susan Kihika in Nakuru gubernatorial race in this year’s elections.

Kinyanjui is seeking to defend his seat on a Jubilee party ticket while senator Kihika is seeking to unseat the incumbent on Deputy President William Ruto’s UDA party.

Ordinarily, one would expect MP Kimani Ngunjiri to support Lee Kinyanjui’s rival for the seat but alas!

Speaking on Wednesday, June 1, during the 59 Madaraka Day fete in Bahati Constituency, Kimani Ngujiri, openly drummed up support for governor Kinyanjui of Jubilee.

“I want to urge residents of Bahati to be keen while voting in the forthcoming General Election,

“In Nakuru County, jibu ni Lee and in Bahati jibu ni Ngunjiri,” the MP said amid applause from the crowd.

The political development will no doubt escalate tension between the two allies of William Ruto who have been for a long time embroiled in supremacy wars over the control of the UDA party affair in Nakuru.

In retaliation, Senator Kihika has vowed to ensure the MP is defeated in the August 9, General Election.

“Ati yule jamaa wa Bahati amesema nini leo? Kama maneno iko hivyo na mimi ninansema watu wangu wa Bahati round hii tucheze kama sisi, kwani iko nini. Waende home na Governor Kinyanjui,” Kihika said.

Loosely translated “I hear he (Kimani Ngunjiri) has endorsed my rival. If that is the case, I urge my people of Bahati to ensure the two go home,” Kihika said in a Facebook post.

It remains to be seen how this will play out or if the party leader, William Ruto, will step in to reconcile the two to ensure Kenya Kwanza votes are not divided on August 8.
