Kenya’s President William Ruto has fired salvos at those critiquing his new tax measures.

Deputy President William Ruto is still ahead of ODM leader Raila Odinga in the presidential race according to the latest opinion polls from Statistics Kenya.

According to the polls, even though DP Ruto has consistently remained ahead of other aspirants, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has greatly narrowed the gap

As per the polls, 43 % of registered voters say they will vote for Ruto in the August 9 presidential election while 40 % say they will vote for Raila Odinga.

According to the poll done between February 14 and 28, 2022, the Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka emerged third with 4% while Musalia Mudavadi had a popularity rate of 3%.

“In summary, William Ruto is still leading polling at 43% followed by Raila Odinga at 40%. Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi polled at 4% and 3% respectively,” the report by Statistics Kenya noted.

“Raila Odinga has gained popularity as compared to William Ruto who has dropped by slightly more than 1 percent. This has also been the case where Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi have grown and lost popularity respectively,” the report added.

Also according to the finding of the polls, the number of undecided voters has reduced marginally currently standing at 9.5 %.

According to the polls, Raila is ahead of Ruto in Coast, North Eastern, Western, Nyanza, and Nairobi regions.

“Raila has gained popularity in these regions and this is mai8nly attributed to the campaigns he has held across the country and with the significant leaders from the specific regions even in his absence,” the report said.

On the other hand, the deputy president has continued to maintain the lead in Eastern, Central, and Rift Valley regions.

In terms of coalition popularity, the Kenya Kwanza alliance is the most popular at 36.7% followed by Azimio la Umoja which has a popularity rate of 30.8%, with One Kenya Alliance emerging third at 8.9%.
