by Enock Ndayala

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has summoned all presidential ticket contenders including DP William Ruto to appear for an interview to determine his eligibility as a presidential candidate.

The UDA party de facto leader is expected to appear together with the other two presidential hopefuls Tracy Wanjiru Kingoli and Jephnei Nyakwama who have also expressed their ambitions to fly the party’s presidential ticket.

In a statement released on Thursday, March 10, UDA Secretary-General Veronica Maina said the three are expected to appear before the panel on Saturday, March 12, where verification of Ruto’s documents will also be undertaken.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has summoned all presidential ticket contenders including DP William Ruto to appear for an interview to determine his eligibility as a presidential candidate.

“We are in receipt of your application to be nominated as a presidential candidate through the National Delegates Congress (NDC),

“Consequently, we invite you for verification of your documents and interview to determine your eligibility as a presidential candidate,” the letter read in part.

The deputy president is required to avail his National Identification Card, a colored passport-sized photograph on (soft copy), proof of payment of nomination fees, original and copy of the academic certificates, and an updated resume.

The party said the best candidate would on March 15 at the Kasarani indoor arena be endorsed as UDA presidential flag bearer where more than 5,000 delegates are expected to attend.

Kivumbi.co.ke understands that this process shall set the stage for the nomination of a presidential candidate on the yet-to-be registered One Kenya Alliance coalition where Moses Wetangula, Musalia Mudavadi, and William Ruto could face off for the coalition’s presidential ticket.

Musalia Mudavadi has already been endorsed for the top seat by his party, Amani National Congress, while Ford Kenya already endorsed Moses Wetangula for the top seat

The development in UDA comes barely days after Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua revealed that the deputy president is the defacto presidential flag bearer of UDA in the August 9, General Election.

“As far as am concerned there is a general consensus that William Ruto is our Candidate,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua who is being considered as the best bet to be William Ruto’s running mate further ruled out possibilities of other One Kenya Alliance co-principals Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya) of battling it out with Ruto for the presidential ticket.
