Deputy President William Ruto has strongly accused his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta of insulting the people who stood with him at the most difficult time.
Speaking during a rally at the Thika Stadium on Sunday, March 13, the deputy president wondered why the head of state was persecuting people who helped him win the presidential seat.
“When you were looking for somebody to walk with during the 2013 elections while going through tough times over the ICC case, I was there but for four-and-a-half years you have made us suffer,
“The same people you (President Uhuru Kenyatta) are now calling thieves and other names are the ones who stood with you morally and through prayers when you were facing a very difficult time. We are the same people who campaigned for you in 2013 and 2017,” William Ruto said.
Ruto further accused Uhuru of going to bed with his political nemesis, ODM leader Raila Odinga to reduce DP’s chances of ascending to the presidency in the August 9, General Election.
“When Uhuru was facing ICC charges it’s only I who stood with him, Raila was not there for him,” he said in reference to the recent endorsement of ODM leader Raila Odinga.
On March Saturday 12, without mentioning Ruto by name, President Uhuru said the deputy president had lied to Kenyans about what the government had done while dishing out proceeds of corruption.
Ruto further criticized Uhuru for disrespecting the church leaders who prayed for him in 2013, when the two leaders were facing crimes against humanity charges at the ICC.
“Tafadhali rais usiite majina viongozi wetu wa makanisa, hao ndio walituombea tulienda Hague (Please president don’t name our church leaders, they are the ones who prayed for us we went to The Hague),” Ruto.
