Ruto’s ally dares MPs threatening to impeach Speaker Justin Muturi

by Nderi Caren

Nominated MP David Sankok, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto has come out to defend Justin Muturi against a rumoured impeachment motion.

Speaking on the floor of the National assembly on Wednesday, June 9, the legislator said the speaker has performed his duties well and should not be impeached.

“And I want to dare them to try and bring such a motion into this House. Because I don’t know if it is the deep state or whoever who wants to bring that motion. But they will know that they don’t know,” David Sankok said.

According to Sankok, the looming impeachment motion is meant to blackmail Justin Muturi.

“Whether it is the deep state, shallow state or the system, let them dare and bring,” he went on.

His sentiments come at a time when the speaker’s position is threatened by some unidentified members of the National Assembly.

Muturi was found unfit by the anonymous legislators after his coronation as the Mt. Kenya spokesperson on May 22.

The activity irked not only MPs but also a number of Governors, Senators and Government officials from Central Kenya.

However, Muturi remained unbowed even after the reports of his impeachment gained momentum.

In an address to the press on June 6, the speaker told the legislators to ‘bring it on.’

“There is no impeachment of the speaker. The only option is for the Parliament to pass a vote of no confidence. We have the rules that are supposed to be followed and they are open. Whoever will hit the threshold should try,” he said.

It is not a surprise that DP Ruto’s ally would ‘take a bullet for Justin Muturi.’

This is because the Tanga Tanga brigade from Central Kenya have secretly endorsed the coronation of Muturi.

They have identified Muturi as a potential candidate to deputize William Ruto in 2022.
