Ruto’s bitter critic quotes Bible verse after losing battle for UDA ticket

Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter has found solace in the holy book after losing the battle to fly the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.

Keter, a fierce critic of Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto in a long Facebook post on Thursday, April 28, quoted Isaiah 40:31.

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint,” he said.

This was after the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal upheld the decision of the UDA National Elections Board that revoked Alfred Keter’s UDA nomination certificate and awarded it to his bitter rival Benard Kitur.

Keter, got 10,273 votes against his closest challenger Bernard Kitur’s 7,468 votes in the April 19, UDA nominations but the William Ruto-led party has since denied him the ticket.

“The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal has today upheld the decision of the UDA National Elections Board whereby my victory in the recently conducted UDA nominations was nullified, my certificate revoked unfairly and thereafter awarded to my opponent who came second, Benard Kitur,” Keter said.

In what appeared that the legislator will soar on wings like eagles and not grow weary, the lawmaker assured his supporters that he will defend his seat as an independent candidate in this year’s General Election.

“I wish to announce to the people of Nandi Hills Constituency that I will protect their interests and aspirations on an INDEPENDENT ticket. I urge my supporters to remain calm and patient because as I said earlier, there is light at the end of the tunnel,” Keter said.

He excluded confidence that he will beat his bitter rival in the August, 9 elections just like he did during the recently held UDA nominations.

“I have accepted the decision of the panel though I believe that the will of the people which has been subverted and is currently under a serious trial, shall prevail in the end,” he said.
