Ruto’s party hits back at Jubilee over claims of stealing membership data

by Amos Khaemba

William Ruto’s party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has dismissed claims by the Jubilee party that it stole crucial data saying such allegations are baseless and unfounded.

In a hard-hitting statement on Saturday, February 5, UDA Secretary-General Veronica Maina called out on Jubilee for attempting to audit its membership register.

“UDA’s attention has been drawn to media reports of a baseless and desperate attempt, by the jubilee party to question the legitimacy of our party members,

“Ordinarily, the jubilee party has no mandate or jurisdiction to audit or account for other political parties’ membership other than its own,” Maina said.

She said it is only the office of the registrar of political parties that is the custodian of all party membership registrar.

“The days of using ill-informed ‘Big Brother’ tactics to manipulate and control independent and popular parties ended with the promulgation of the progressive 2010 Constitution,” Maina said.

The statement by UDA comes after the Jubilee party called for the de-registration of the ‘hustlers’ party for stealing membership data to hoodwink Kenyans that it’s the most popular party.

UDA maintained that it’s the most popular party because since its formation it has done vigorous recruitment of members in all 47 counties.

“These activities have been ongoing with emphasis on grassroots support in tandem with our ‘Bottom-Up’ economic model approach. Our County, constituency, and ward coordinators together with our robust head office team have meticulously documented thus this process to guarantee the accuracy,” Maina added.

Maina said the arrogance and cruelty of the Jubilee party should be blamed for the mass resignation of members from the party.

The UDA secretary-general warned the ruling party against dragging it into their resuscitation efforts.

“For a party that embarked on a vicious and systematic purge of its own members, with high profile humiliation of parliamentary and party leadership, we are surprised that you now realize you do not have members,” Maina said.
