Deputy President William Ruto’s die-hard supporter, popularly known as Cosmo Choy has apologised following his gross verbal attack on Mama Ngina Kenyatta, Kenya’s first-ever First Lady.
Taking on social media on Thursday, March 24, Choy said that he got carried away when he made the unprintable remarks against Mama Ngina.
“I am here to apologise to the Kenyatta Family, Mama Ngina Kenyatta and President Uhuru Kenyatta. I am sorry for the remarks that I made a few days ago. I didn’t mean it,” Choy said.
Choy whose real name is Ombori Monari added that he was only defending DP Ruto after Mama Ngina made him the subject of discussion recently.
“Mama aliingia siasa na akaongea juu ya Ruto na mnajua napenda Ruto lakini siasa ni mbaya,” ( Mama Ngina got involved in politics and began discussing Ruto, and you all know I support Ruto but politics is bad)” Said, the once fierce critic of William Ruto.
“I do apologize. It is something sweet to have a mum alive, I lost my mom and I will never see her again so pole sana. We are human beings and we make mistakes and we forgive each other.” He added.
Choy was pictured leading Kenyans in the diaspora who met William Ruto on his US tour recently.
Before decamping to support William Ruto, Choy was a staunch supporter of ODM leader Raila Odinga and even considered vying for the Embakasi East parliamentary seat- currently held by Babu Owino.
The apology by the Ruto supporter comes after pressure from Kenyans on social media as well as a section of Nairobi women led by Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris.
Passaris, Nairobi Governor Ann Kananu, and other women leaders staged demonstrations in Nairobi condemning the remarks while calling on DP Ruto to rein in his supporters.
Ruto’s supporter condemned
“The Women of Kenya condemn the obscene utterances made against the honor of the Former 1st Lady and Mother of our Nation, Mama Ngina Kenyatta.
“We demand an apology from DP and ask him to rein in his supporters as their remarks if not condemned, are condoned by him,” Pasaris wrote on Twitter.
Another random Twitter user, Sunstone Osoro said that the video by Choy was so demeaning that people should not watch it.
“Cosmo Choy, who was pictured with Ruto when he was on his US tour, has made some unsavory remarks directed at Mama Ngina. If you respect your mother, daughter, aunt, and sister don’t watch that clip,” Osoro wrote on Twitter.
Blogger, Abraham Mutai while condemning Choy’s remarks said it was so embarrassing for a person who welcomed DP Ruto US to make such demeaning remarks.
“Cosmo Choy is the greatest embarrassment in UDA. That such a person was the one welcoming William Ruto and his entourage into the USA underpins what UDA stands for. He is an embarrassment to the Kisii community,” Mutai wrote on Twitter.
