Scare as man hangs on Peter Munya’s campaign chopper as it takes off

by Amos Khaemba

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya has intensified campaigns for the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga in Meru County.

As the political campaign period hit fever pitch, a section of attendees is prone to pulling crazy stunts even risking their lives in some cases.

While some will stand in the way of speeding SUV cars ferrying political aspirants, some will hang on to those cars in the hope of catching the aspirant’s attention and in the process get some handouts.

On Wednesday, June 22, there was a scare in Meru County after a man hang onto Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya’s campaign chopper as it was taking off.

In the video seen by Kivumbi.co.ke, the residents noticed a man was hanging on the landing gears and shouted at the pilot, urging him not to fly any higher to allow the man to jump off.

In the video, the unidentified man seems unconcerned about the danger he was exposing himself to as he acknowledged cheers from the crowd below.

During the incident, CS Munya and EALA MP Mburu Aburu were on board together with their security details.

When the pilot finally landed, the man jumped and took off as police officers pursued him forcing residents to intervene for the officers not assault him.

“Police were baying for his blood and he feared that he was going to be beaten,” Joseph Kubai a resident told the Nation Newspaper.

“We did not arrest him because we suspected he might cause trouble in the cells, so we let him go,” Igembe South police boss Hussein Ali told the Nation.

This is not the first incident to happen in Meru, in 2017, a man nicknamed “James Bond” also hang on ODM leader Raila Odinga’s chopper when it took off during a voter registration drive.

In the incident, Raila’s chopper was forced to land 20 kilometers away with the man sustaining minor injuries.

In 2016 a youth by name of Saleh Wanjala dangerously hangs on the chopper that had ferried the body of the fallen controversial businessma Jacob Juma in Bungoma.

Wanjala was later arrested by police after the pilot landed two kilometers from Bungoma airstrip.
