A section of leaders from the Eastern region has urged Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to support Raila Odinga for the presidency in next year’s General Election.

Led by former Kanu vice-chairman Eastern region Francis Kalinzoya, the leaders urged the former vice president to work with a team that is likely to win saying their community which has been left out of government for decades risks being in opposition for the next five years should Kalonzo give his second stab at the presidency.

Kalinzoya who was speaking on Thursday, October 28, at a burial ceremony at Ngonda Village in Matungulu constituency asked the One Kenya Alliance principal to first consider the number of votes Ukambani has.

A section of leaders from the Eastern region has urged Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to support Raila Odinga for the presidency in next year’s General Election.

“I love Kalonzo (Musyoka) and I will tell him the truth. We as a community should consider the number of votes we have and the resources which we can contribute to driving his bid,” he said.

He further decried the low voter listing turn out witnessed in the region which had 1.6 million votes according to IEBC register saying that the community’s demand that Kalonzo vies for the 2022 presidency should be realistic.

“We have not even contributed enough to mobilise for registration of voters as others have done,” he said.

His sentiments come at a time Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto is reported to be seeking a coalition deal with the Wiper leader ahead of the 2022 elections to form a formidable team that will face ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Earlier on, Kalonzo declared that he is now his own man in politics and will not play second fiddle to anyone, indicating that he is ready to risk it all and push to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.

“This time around we are not taking prisoners. If President Uhuru Kenyatta is leaving the Presidency according to the law, then Wiper will be taking over. We are going to talk with party delegates to ensure we have a strong team to emerge the winner,” Kalonzo said.
