Senator-elect Bony Khalwale mocks Francis Atwoli after Ruto’s win

by Enock Ndayala

Central Organization for Trade Union (COTU) boss Francis Atwoli has always held the belief that former Eldoret North MP William Ruto will never be president before the ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Atwoli, a staunch critic of William Ruto, even once made a highly criticised joke asking Ruto’s village neighbours to cut down trees as he will commit suicide after losing the August 9, presidential election.

However, on Monday, August 15, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati declared William Ruto the fifth president-elect of the Republic of Kenya.

Ruto garnered 7,176,141 votes, representing 50.59 percent of valid votes cast, beating his rival Azimio la Umoja flagbearer Raila Odinga who had 6,942,930 votes.

Following the win, Kakamega senator-elect Boni Khalwale took to his official social media pages to mock the vocal trade unionist for falsely predicting that Ruto will never win a presidential election.

Khalwale shared a photo of Atwoli who appeared shocked and asked him to show his record that Ruto together with him will never be the President and the senator respectively.

“Dear Francis Atwoli, please let your record show that Boni Khalwale (Yule maskini) and William Ruto (Yule mwizi) have been elected senator of Kakamega and president of the Republic of Kenya respectively,” Khalwale said in a Tweet.

Atwoli in all his previous media interviews insisted that Ruto was a thief and hence will not win the 2022 presidential election where he was facing Raila Odinga.

“And I have said it here and now and I want to repeat it here before you, William Samoei Ruto is not going to win elections… He is not going to win elections. Take it from me and I am here… and I am on national television,” Atwoli once said in a dramatic interview on Citizen TV’s JKL programme.
