Senator Mwaura: Mudavadi welcome to UDA but forget about runningmate

by Amos Khaemba

Nominated senator Issac Mwaura has welcomed the political partnership between ANC leader Musalia Muvadadi and Deputy President William Ruto but warned the ANC leader to forget about the running mate position.

Speaking on Monday, January 24 on a morning show on KTN News channel, Mwaura said that even if it is early to talk about the working modalities of the two parties, the presidential running mate position is reserved for someone from Mt Kenya region.

“We in Mt Kenya are very categorical that the deputy president position is from our region. Our competitors would want to think that Mudavadi is going to be Ruto’s running mate, not at all,” Mwaura affirmed.

Mwaura pointed out that the recognition of Governor Ann Waiguru, MPs Alice Wahome, and Rigathi Gachagua at the Mudavadi’s event was a clear indicator that Mt. Kenya has a big stake in any formation of United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Speaking on the same matter, Senate majority leader Samuel Poghisio faulted Mudavadis’ move saying it will have a negative impact on his political aspirations.

“There is no mention of Mudavadi in the United Democratic Alliance party plans, they have no interest in him,” Poghisio said.

“All of us are wondering what happened to Mudavadi. Why would he drive into something that, makes him irrelevant,” added the senate majority leader?

During the launch of his presidential bid, Musalia Mudavadi unveiled his new partnership with Deputy President William Ruto toward the August 9 presidential election.

“We are glad today marks a new page in the political discourse of our nation. UDA commits to work with ANC, Ford Kenya, and all other parties that want to walk with us in the journey to unite and transform Kenya,” Ruto on the new partnership.

Since the formation of the United Democratic Alliance party by the DP, the Mt. Kenya region has been positioning itself for the running mate slot bearing in mind that they will not be fronting a presidential candidate.

What remains to be seen is the role Mudavadi will play in the new so-called ‘earthquake’ formation.
