Siaya Senator James Orengo has endorsed Raila’s elder brother Oburu Odinga to take over as the next Siaya Senator in the forthcoming General Election.
While expressing his interest to vie for Siaya gubernatorial in the 2022 General Election, Orengo said that Oburu has gained enough experience to represent people of Siaya in the Senate.
He said the former assistant minister for finance who is currently a member of the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) has weathered strong political barriers and its time he enjoys the fruits of his patriotism.
“All those who are running here and there saying they want to become the Senator should tell you in detail where they have been when Oburu was battling strong political waves,” Orengo said.
According to the Leader of Minority in Senate, Oburu has stood with his younger brother in difficult times including during the swearing in of Raila as the People’s president at Uhuru Park.
“Oburu has stood with Raila all the time. He was with Raila at Uhuru park during the swearing in of Raila Odinga and he has played an integral part in contributing and supporting us during the difficult political decisions we embraced as the ODM party,” Orengo said.
Orengo, the former Ugenya Member of Parliament said he is focusing on succeeding governor Cornel Rasanga whose constitutional 2-term is coming to an end in August 2022.
The vocal senator who has been among Raila’s legal team said he is working hand in hand with Oburu Odinga to ensure the ODM party leader Raila Odinga wins presidential election.
“I will not defend my senatorial position because I am seeking to become your next governor. I will work closely with Oburu Odinga to help our party leader get to Canaan,” he said.
