Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza survived impeachment for the second time.

On Tuesday, November 22, a motion to impeach Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza was formally tabled at the county assembly.

This was after 68 out of 69 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) appended their signatures supporting the impeachment of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza which was proposed by Abagote MCA Dennis Kiogora.

Grounds listed for her removal are nepotism, illegal appointments, unlawful dismissals, and usurpation of the constitutional and statutory functions of county organs.

However, speaking at Nkubu Social Hall in Imenti South on Wednesday, November 23, Meru governor dared county legislators to pursue their impeachment motion against her.

She expressed confidence that once the suit is determined, the truth would come out and she would be absolved of all allegations leveled against her.

“We are not worried; we are working na serikali ya mama iko imara na kuwa imara ni katika utendaji kazi maana hakuna function ya serikali imesimama. Mimi na wafanyikazi wenzangu wa kaunti government tuko kazi usiku na mchana. Tunapeleka maendeleo mashinani,” Kawira said.

While dismissing accusations leveled against her, Mwangaza who was elected on an independent ticket in the August 9, elections maintained that the ouster debacle would help her administration debunk issues of contention with Meru MCAs.

“Lawyers will deal with other lawyers. The truth will be known. The petition will allow us to shed light on the truth. This is the right time because all the allegations that have hired illegally would finally be addressed

“I want the electorates to know the truth, and this is the perfect opportunity for everything to come out, which will then set us free,” she said.

Mwangaza further stated she got the Meru Governor’s seat in God’s favor and that no man would take it away from her.

“Kama ni mwanadamu angefungua mlango angekuwa na uwezo wa kufunga lakini maana mlango ulifunguliwa na mwenyezi mungu; yeye ndiye aliye na uwezo wa kufunga,” she said.

Loosely translated to: “If it was a human being who opened the door, he would have the ability to close it, but because the door was opened by the Almighty God; he is the one who has the ability to close.”

she said.
