Singer Bahati cries after Jubilee party took away nomination certificate

by Enock Ndayala

Musician-turned politician Kevin Bahati on Monday, April 25, broke into tears after the Jubilee party took away his nomination certificate.

Bahati, who had secured the Jubilee ticket to contest for the Mathare parliamentary seat in the August 9, General Election, was further told to withdraw from the race.

Addressing journalists in Nairobi, the ‘Barua’ hitmaker accused the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga of being the mastermind of his woes.

He asked the Jubilee Party Leader President Uhuru Kenyatta to let the people of Mathare elect a leader of their choice.

“I respect you my president and I respect Raila Amollo Odinga but please, give the youth of this country a chance,

“I know there is zoning and Mathare has been zoned as an ODM area but for this one time, give the youth of this country a chance,

“Give the people of Mathare a chance to choose the leader they have always wanted,” Bahati said.

Bahati further assured his supporters that he will be on the ballot in this year’s election even if his nomination certificate has been taken back pointing out that he could vie as an independent candidate.

“I personally have made a decision that I’m not backing down from the race. My name will be on the ballot on August 9,” he added.

Kivumbi.co.ke understands that this is not the first artist-turned politician to be shortchanged in the just-ended party primaries.

Last week, a video of ex-singer and now Ghetto Radio boss Julius Ondiji Owino alias Maji Maji in tears emerged after he was denied a chance to fly the ODM ticket, a move that appears to have completely killed his political career.

The unbwogable hitmaker was seeking to vie for Seme parliamentary seat on an ODM ticket but his bitter rival was handed a direct ticket.
