President Uhuru Kenyatta’s party has finally handed musician-turned politician Kevin Mbuvi Kioko alias ‘Bahati’ a Jubilee ticket.

This comes barely a month since the ruling outfit revoked the Jubilee nomination certificate that the party had issued to him.

However, in a press conference attended by Jubilee Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni among other leaders, it was announced that Bahati will fly the party ticket come the August 9, elections.

Addressing journalists, Kioni thanked the musician for his patience stating that he is just like any other Jubilee member and that he must be given an equal opportunity like other party members.

“You (Bahati) have an equal opportunity like any other person in Jubilee and that is why we have given you back the ticket,” the Jubilee spokesperson said.

While thanking the party for giving him back the ticket, Bahati assured that he will deliver the seat to President Uhuru’s party.

“Kwanza ningependa kusema asante sana (First I would like to say thank you very much) I have my Jubilee ticket and I will be on the ballot and I can promise my party that I am the next Member of Parliament for Mathare,” Bahati told journalist on Friday, May 13.

In April 2022, the ‘Barua’ hitmaker secured the Jubilee ticket to contest for the Mathare parliamentary seat in the August 9, General Election.

On Monday, April 25, the ruling party revoked Bahati’s nomination certificate and asked him to withdraw from the race.

It is understood that the move was reached after the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya agreed to zone some of its strongholds to increase ODM leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.

“I know there is zoning and Mathare has been zoned as an ODM area but for this one time, give the youth of this country a chance,” Bahati said.
