The woes facing singer kelvin ‘Bahati’ in his parliamentary bid went a notch higher after he was chased away at an Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition rally in Nairobi.
Bahati had on Monday, July 4, attended the rally that was held at his Mathare Constituency where he is seeking to represent them on a Jubilee party ticket in the August 9 elections.
But in a clip seen by Kivumbi.co.ke, the EMB record label president was forced out of the meeting before he could even address his supporters.
ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Polycarp Igathe were seen gesturing for him to exit the state as they caution the master of the ceremony not to hand over the microphone to Bahati.
The unexpected incident comes at a time the singer has been embroiled in a war of words with Nairobi Senatorial aspirant Edwin Sifuna.
This was after Sifuna announced that Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party had settled on the incumbent Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch to fly their flag in the August 9 election.
While faulting the ODM spokesperson for denying him a chance to address his supporters, the Mtoto wa mama hitmaker exuded confidence that he will emerge victorious in the August 9, General Election.
In a statement on Tuesday, July 5, Bahati said he will not be cowed by the mistreatment stating that he has the backing of Mathare residents who have registered as voters.
“Lakini Mungu halali; Hata mkinidhulumu watu wa Mathare wameamua kura watapea mtoto wa Mathare,” he said in an Instagram post.
Loosely translated to, “But God doesn’t sleep; Even if you mistreat me, the people of Mathare have decided to elect a Mathare child.”
He claimed that his popularity threatened those opposed to his bid prompting them to eject him.
“When Sifuna and his friend saw that the incoming Mathare MP -Bahati Kioko, has arrived and the crowd was demanding to hear me speak… They decided to end the meeting pre-maturely against the will of the people,” he said.
