Sirisia MP explains why William Ruto is man to beat in 2022 presidential race

by Enock Ndayala

Sirisia MP John Waluke has said Deputy President William Ruto is better placed to succeed retiring President Uhuru Kenyatta next year and dismissed Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula and ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi’s chances.

In an interview with one of the country’s local radio stations on Sunday, July 18, the Tanga Tanga allied legislator said he will not drum up support for Musalia Mudavadi who has declared his interest to become Kenya’s fifth president.

“We give support to a presidential candidate who has the ability to make it. It is in black and white that William Ruto is going to win (the 2022 presidential race),” he said.

The Sirisia MP further said he would not support any presidential candidate from the entire Western Kenya because they (Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula) have refused to stick together ahead of the 2022 General Election.

“For the last one year, we have been talking to (Moses) Wetang’ula and (Musalia) Mudavadi to step down for another but they are not able to agree between themselves,

“I will not waste my energy to support someone whom I know is not going to win just because he is my kinsman. Wetangula and Mudavadi cannot beat DP William Ruto,” he explained.

The western region has the highest number of presidential candidates in the forthcoming General Election if the recent declaration by area leaders is anything to go by.

Former UNCTAD Secretary-General Mukhisa Kituyi, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and celebrated Gospel singer Reuben Kigame have declared their interest in the top seat.

Ford Kenya leader and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula earlier on hinted at vying for the presidency but has since gone silent.

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya had asked his party leader Raila Odinga to support his bid to succeed retiring President Uhuru Kenyatta.

However, Oparanya later said he was ready to shelve his 2022 presidential ambitions in favor of his boss adding he will be on the ballot for the top seat in the event Raila Odinga does not vie for the President.
