National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has said that he is being threatened due to his 2022 presidential ambitions.

Speaking at his Kanyuambora rural home in Embu, on Friday, September 10, where he officially announced his candidature, Muturi said some unnamed government investigative agencies have been threatening him with prosecutions.

“I and leaders who support my presidential bid have been threatened with prosecution,” the speaker said.

In a report by the Daily Nation, Muturi told Ward representatives and youth group leaders from the Mt Kenya East that he was a clean man hence he would not be intimidated by those opposed to his State House job.

“I told those issuing threats that they can take legal action if they can show that I have committed economic crimes,” he said.

The former judiciary man-turned-politician urged his supporters to be patient, saying he would launch his own party soon, which he would use to run for president in the next General Election.

Muturi who was crowned the Mt Kenya region spokesperson in May said he does not trust the so-called national parties which everyone is scrambling for to be the flag bearer.

“I am going to contest for the presidency on a new political vehicle which will be made public soon. I call for your patience,” the speaker said.

In August, Muturi joined other presidential underdogs Mukhisa Kituyi and Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana to craft a third political alliance to compete with ODM’s Raila Odinga, One Kenya Alliance (OKA), and Deputy President (DP) William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

In a press statement on Tuesday, August 18, the National Assembly speaker said that he and the rest aim at a new style of politics that is neither chaotic nor divisive.

“We cannot change this country if we keep doing things the same way. That is why I am in this conversation with my friends Kibwana and Kituyi. We will expand this to be as inclusive as possible so that we can take this country forward,” said Justin Muturi.
