Steve Ogolla on why Raila, Ruto need to woo Kalonzo and Mudavadi

by Enock Ndayala

City lawyer Steve Ogolla has advised presidential front runners Raila Odinga and William Ruto to court ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Wiper counterpart Kalonzo Musyoka if they want to win the 2022 presidency.

Ogolla an advocate of the High Court argued that if the deputy president and the ODM leader fail to woo Kalonzo and Mudavadi, then none of them would win the presidency in the first round.

Speaking to Citizen TV on Monday, October 04, Ogolla said the duo who are currently among the four Principals of the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) have the potential to deny Ruto and Raila from ascending to the presidency.

City lawyer Steve Ogolla has advised presidential front runners Raila Odinga and William Ruto to court ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Wiper counterpart Kalonzo Musyoka if they want to win the 2022 presidency.

“In the ballot, we will have two candidates; Raila (Odinga) and (William) Ruto so they need to court Kalonzo (Musyoka) and (Musalia) Mudavadi because they have the potential to stop either Raila or DP Ruto from being the president,” he said.

He said if Mudavadi and Kalonzo are left to contest for the president in the 2022 General Election, their possibility of winning is slim but they will scoop a good number of votes that would have given either Raila or Ruto a win.

Ogolla said it will be too hard for the former Prime Minister and the deputy president to get the 50 plus one vote as well as at least 25 percent of the total votes cast in half of the counties across the country if Mudavadi and Kalonzo will be on the ballot.

“If you look at article 138 sub-article five of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, it creates two important hurdles that a candidate must clear before he may be declared the president… And the reality may weaken against clearing those thresholds,” he added.

Ogolla’s sentiments come at a time President Uhuru Kenyatta has been persuading the OKA principals to unite with Raila Odinga to form a credible team that can face his estranged deputy president William Ruto.
