Steve Ogolla: Raila Odinga cannot be President without Western Kenya support

by Enock Ndayala

City lawyer Steve Ogolla has sensationally claimed that the ODM leader Raila Odinga may not win the much-awaited August 9, presidential election.

Ogolla an advocate of the High Court argued that the recent move by ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi to form a political partnership with William Ruto’s UDA party may deny Raila Western Kenya votes needed to help him succeed retiring President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“With (Musalia) Mudavadi and (Moses) Wetangula gone, and Mt Kenya looking shaky, you would have to stretch optimism to breaking point to see how Baba (Raila Odinga) will win this thing (the presidency),” Ogolla said in a Facebook post seen by Kivumbi.co.ke.

City lawyer Steve Ogolla has sensationally claimed that the ODM leader may not win the much-awaited August 9, presidential election.

Ogolla said for Raila to win the hotly anticipated presidential election, he needs to consolidate former National Super Alliance strongholds.

NASA strongholds included the Western region which was fronted by Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula and his ANC counterpart Musalia Mudavadi, Nyanza region, the coastal region, and Ukambani region.

“To win the presidency, Baba (Raila Odinga) needed to consolidate former NASA voting block and work to get appreciable support from Mt Kenya,” he said.

Ogolla’s remarks were echoed by Canada-based Kenyan lawyer Miguna Miguna who said that Raila Odinga will scoop less than 15 percent of the total votes cast in the Western region which cannot help him ascend to power.

“Let me give you this for free, Raila Odinga will get less than 15% votes from Western and less than 40% nationally,” the controversial lawyer said.

With exactly 196 days to the August 9, General Election, the presidential duel appears to be shaping into a two-horse race between Raila Odinga and William Ruto.

This follows the technical death of One Kenya Alliance (OKA) after deputy president William Ruto on Sunday, January 23, announced that he will be working with ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetang’ula ahead of the August presidential election..

“We will work with ANC, Ford Kenya, and like-minded parties that want to walk this journey of bringing Kenyans together,” Ruto said.
