Igembe North Member of Parliament Maoka Maore has said that the Mt Kenya region will vote for Raila Odinga because of the fear of Deputy President William Ruto.

According to Maoka Maore the Mt Kenya people do not vote for someone because they love him, but because of the threat from his opponent.

He explained that William Ruto might be having numbers right now, but the region might overwhelmingly vote for Raila Odinga, who appears to be unpopular but packaged differently.

“The mountain doesn’t vote for you because they love you but because of the fear or threat that is posed by the other candidate,” Maoka Maore said.

Speaking during an interview on KTN News, Maoka Maore explained that the Mt Kenya region had for long been incited to fear Raila Odinga in the past years, and that is why they have always voted against him.

“We have been demonising Raila Odinga, calling him all those names because we had Kibaki (10 years) and President Uhuru (10 years) with us. Now that we don’t (a strong candidate from the Mountain) all those things we have been saying about Raila will now be taken back and we shall paint him differently,” he added.

Maoka Maore stated that the Mt Kenya leaders will influence residents to vote for Raila if they stop painting a bad image of him like before, and instead present his heroic acts.

The vote-rich region has been a point of focus ahead of the 2022 General Election because of its huge voter turn out which heavily influences elections.

However, political pundits argue that Raila Odinga does not need the Mt Kenya vote as much as William Ruto needs them.

In one of his analyses, Political analyst Herman Manyora explained that Raila Odinga only needs a very small percentage of the central region vote to become the next president.

He explained that Raila Odinga has drawn closer to the presidency in the past polls, when the region had been highly poisoned against him.
