‘Trouble in paradise’ confusion as Jubilee SG dismisses his suspension from office

The Jubilee Party on Friday, February 10, held its National Executive Committee meeting at Woodlands Hotel, Nakuru.

According to a statement sent to newsrooms shortly after the meeting, the outfit confirmed to have made several changes to the leadership of the party.

For instance, Party’s Vice chairman David Murathe and Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni were kicked out. EALA MP Kanini Kega replaced Kioni while Eldas MP Adan Keynan replaced Murathe as the vice chairperson.

However, speaking during Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party rally in Machakos, Kioni dismissed reports that he had been suspended from the party’s top leadership.

He termed as “lies” reports that he had been ejected from the position adding that those who met were awesomely paid by President William Ruto to scuttle the opposition.

Kioni further downplayed reports that the Party has withdrawn from Azimio la Umoja adding that party leader Uhuru Kenyatta was

“That is a lie. I am here as the Jubilee secretary general. Jubilee will remain in Azimio forever. Uhuru Kenyatta will remain in Azimio forever. Those paid by State House to destroy parties should pave the way,” he said.

The Jubilee party NEC meeting happened just days after a section of party lawmakers met President William Ruto at State House.

As such Kioni revealed that the NEC meeting was a continuation of a recent meeting convened by the Head of State terming the move as dangerous.

“Those in State House and elsewhere have started a dangerous plot to ensure they weaken the opposition by buying out Azimio parties. We know that a small group led by those who went to State House the other day has met in Nakuru and said that Jubilee has bolted out of Azimio,” he added.
