The Azimio la Umoja led by Raila Odinga is experiencing trouble as affiliate parties try to control local politics ahead of the August elections.

The issue surrounding the zoning of Azimio strongholds in respect to the strength of certain political parties seems to be causing discomfort among some parties.

Democratic Action Party of Kenya associated with Eugene Wamalwa has warned the former premier that they will not entertain any talk on the subject.

In a press briefing on Friday, March 25, DAP-K officials termed Raila’s move a likely political suicide.

“Let Kenyans choose their own leaders. When we start limiting parties and fielding them in certain regions, what will happen to contestants who have invested time and resources to mobilize supporters?” Wamalwa posed.

“They will be so disappointed and might not even vote come August 9th, if that is to happen who is to lose? It is definitely Raila” Wamalwa stated.

The battle for the control of the Western region between ODM and the newly formed DAP-K is what is causing jitters.

The ODM party is pushing DAP-K not to field candidates in Kakamega, Vihiga, and Busia on the basis that the Raila-led party is more popular in those counties.

On the other hand, DAP-K led by Wafula Wamunyinyi had stood firm saying they will field candidates in all positions across the country except the presidency.

“If at all these zoning claims are true and you are looking at the Western region, you cannot zone DAP-K to just Bungoma and Trans Nzoia,” Wamunyi said.
