Trouble in UDA as Muthama skips Ruto’s rally after entry of Alfred Mutua

Divisions have emerged in Deputy President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza coalition just a day after Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua joined the camp.

On Monday, May 9, the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader ditched ODM leader Raila Odinga’s Azimo la Umoja-OK for Kenya Kwanza.

While announcing his intentions to popularise William Ruto’s presidential bid, Mutua announced a joint political rally in Machakos County on Tuesday, May 10.

Conspicuously UDA Party chairman Johnson Muthama who is eying to succeed Governor Mutua in the August 9, General Election did not attend the rally.

Muthama who was defeated by the then incumbent Alfred Mutua in the 2017 elections, instead hosted a team of UDA Presidential Campaign, South Eastern at his Mua Hills as the rally in Tala went on.

Muthama and Mutua have been political nemesis with each of them seeking to succeed Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka as the Kamba Kingpin ahead of this year’s polls.

Their rivalry escalated just recently after the former Statehouse spokesperson nominated his Deputy governor Francis Maliti to vie for the governorship seat which has also attracted former Senator Muthama who is eying the same seat on a UDA ticket.

During the rally in Tala, the deputy president did not explain the whereabouts of his chairman stating that he will organize another meeting with Muthama at the same venue.

The rally was attended by Kenya Kwanza leaders including Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetang’ula among other coalition leaders.

Addressing journalists in Nairobi on Monday, May 9, the outgoing county boss said that the MCC party believes William Ruto is the best to liberate Kenyans from the york of poverty.

“Deputy President William Ruto is a good man and he will change this country,” governor Mutua said.
