Turkana Governor Josephat Nanok has been appointed the head of Deputy President William Ruto’s campaign secretariat ahead of the 2022 General Election.

Speaking during his two-day tour of Turkana County, on Saturday, December 11, the deputy president said Governor Nanok was best suited as his campaign’s Director-General.

“I want to thank you, people, of Turkana, for allowing your governor to come and help me as the Director-General of my presidential campaigns so that he plans all the issues of the hustlers in our government in 2022,” he said.

Ruto pleaded with Turkana residents to allow Nanok who is serving his second and last term to accompany him in his national campaigns to boost his chances in the bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta next year.

Nanok who is a former ally of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) said he chose to join William Ruto’s team because it stands a ‘better chance’ of forming the next government.

The former ODM party national chair took a swipe at those joining the Kieleweke team that is supporting president Uhuru Kenyatta’s handshake with Raila Odinga) stating that they are only interested in the money.

“For those who have joined the other team, they are joining the other team because of the money of the deep state,” Governor Nanok said.

Nanok is serving his final term at the helm of the county and he needs to actively be involved in the 2022 presidential election so that he remains in the political arena even after next year’s General Election.

Earlier on, Kivumbi.co.ke reported that Nanok exchanged bitter words with Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu after Ngilu referred to the deputy president as the real ‘Mganga’.

This did not settle well with Turkana Governor Josephat Nanok who challenged Ngilu not to criticize other people’s cultures especially that of Turkana saying it is a pathway to cohesion, peace, and development.
