Uasin Gishu woman rep questions President Uhuru’s upbringing

by Enock Ndayala

Uasin Gishu Woman rep Gladys Boss Shollei has taken on President Uhuru Kenyatta’s mother Mama Ngina over her recent remarks where she questioned the upbringing of politicians insulting her President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Mama Ngina, who was speaking during her cousin’s burial in Gatundu South, Kiambu County on Tuesday, March 22, said politicians who were busy insulting President Uhuru were poorly raised by their parents.

Her statement many saw as directed at William Ruto and his allies who have recently sustained attacks against President Uhuru.

“Those who are insulting others, we will let them be, maybe the insults are informed by how they were raised. Let us try to love one another in our country and drive the country’s affairs forward, and be aware of where you are headed,” said Kenya’s first First Lady.

However while referring to the campaigns in the run-up to the 2017 General Election where the Jubilee party leader called his then bitter rival Raila Odinga all sorts of names, Shollei accused Uhuru’s mother of double-speak.

In an interview with Citizen TV on Wednesday, March 23, Shollei, a close ally of the deputy president accused the former first lady of trying to make her son appear as though she had the best upbringing.

“Mama Ngina seemed to be defending the President and said that people who talk badly are not raised well,

“So to try and say that the President (Uhuru) is the perfect and well brought up child that doesn’t say anything negative. We just need to look at the way he behaved at the Jubilee meeting,” Shollei said.

Sholleing could have been referring to President Uhuru’s incessant attacks and insults against ODM leader Raila Odinga in rallies like this one during the 2017 presidential campaigns.

The Head of State and the ODM leader have since reconciled after the famous March 2018 handshake that ended their political rivalry.
