Malala who lost the Kakamega gubernatorial seat to ODM’s Fernandes Barasa takes over from Veronica Maina who was nominated as a senator through the ruling outfit.

The former Kakamega senator was recently shortlisted for the position of Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) and was set to be interviewed by the Public Service Commission (PSC).

Further, the party picked Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire as the Chairperson of the party replacing Public Service Commission-bound member Johnston Muthama.

The East African Legislative Assembly MP Hassan Omar was picked as the Party Vice-Chairperson while Japheth Nyakundi and Vincent Munyaka were appointed as Treasurer and Organizing Secretary respectively.

In a statement, the party through the former SG Veronica Maina said the changes were made at the right time when the party is seeking to roll out a mass membership registration exercise.

“Only bonafide and registered UDA party members will be eligible either to vote during the grassroots elections or to be elected as UDA Party Officials,

“In order to adequately prepare for this exercise, the UDA party will roll out a party membership registration drive to enhance the registration of all those persons interested in participating in this exercise,” read the statements in part.

In his acceptance speech, Malala expressed gratitude to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi for mentoring him.

“I want to thank my party leader for recognizing my capabilities. I take over a party that has a very strong foundation, young but the biggest in Kenya,

“I thank my former party leader Mudavadi for his mentorship that has led to me being identified by this party (UDA),” Malala said.
