Nominated MP Wilson Sosioni has now called on Deputy President William Ruto’s party to postpone the Ongoing UDA nomination process saying the exercise has been marred by fraud.

Addressing journalists on Thursday, April 14, just minutes before the official kicking off of the nomination exercise, Sosioni who has been accused of being an ODM mole in UDA said that the ballot papers arrived at some polling stations when they had already been marked.

Sosion, who is seeking to contest for the Bomet senatorial seat on a UDA ticket said police impounded serialized ballot papers and ballot boxes at midnight that was being transported to an unknown destinationsuggesting that there was a defined line-up within the UDA camp.

“The ballot papers have been marked in favor of a particular candidate and there is a defined line-up and team within this arrangement. It is better to suspend the nominations for a few hours or a day to ensure the process is credible,” Sosioni said.

Sosioni who in 2021 ditched Raila Odinga’s ODM for UDA said the recruitment and appointment of presiding officers and clerks to conduct party nominations was screwed.

“We raised concern about the procedure of recruiting and appointing presiding officers and clerks but that was never addressed,” the vocal unionist added.

Kivumbi.co.ke understands that this is not the first case of rigging ahead of the UDA nominations.

On Wednesday, April 13, a vehicle ferrying UDA ballot materials slated for use in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party’s nominations in Embu were set ablaze over rigging claims.

This was despite the William Ruto-led party promising aspirants a free and fair nomination exercise.

“This will be a nominations exercise like no other. It is the first nominations exercise where international observers have shown interest in participating, it will also be nominations where a political party has committed to respect the will of the people,” UDA party said in a statement.
